The Zoo!

4th May, 2013.

Continuing with the theme of sedate hills: Braxonyja  visited Edinburgh Zoo to celebrate Immy's birthday!

Edinburgh Zoo is set on the south side of Corstorphine Hill at the top of which is apparently a tower dedicated to Sir Walter Scott but which I have to confess I have never seen. The most famous residents of the zoo are, of course, those much publicised (and thus far unromantic) pandas; Tian Tian (Sweetie), and Yang Guang (Sunshine).

Freyja came prepared to meet these zoological superstars clutching her own stuffed version:

As it turns out however the pandas were not a patch on some of the other animals - firm favourites with all concerned were the squirrel monkeys - who were totally awesome! followed by the gibbons, the panther and the pygmy hippo.....oh and the South African crowned cranes....

 What a handsome pygmy hippo

 Freyja enjoys some sun....

...and rice cakes - while sitting on a turtle (not real).

See, it is on a hill.

Admiring the very handsome zebras.

No backpack this time - just the trusty buggy!

Freyja filled with anticipation about meeting the superstar pandas.

and here is Tian Tian, or was it Yang Guang, I was never really sure....

Freyja was pretty delighted with the panda sighting.

or was she just thrilled with the window and not what was behind it.....

 the other one.

 yep, delighted!

Freyja fancies a huge mug of coffee.....after all that excitement.

Kit: Just the Bugaboo buggy this time.

Wildlife Sightings: everything!

Braxony plus one take on Arthur's Seat

27th of April, 2013

Yay, the Hill Blog has resumed after a short hiatus!

Braxony now has three members, the newest of which requires rather more equipment than we used to need for our hillwalking in the past. We are, therefore, going to resume our hillwalking in a slightly more sedate fashion, for now, at least.

So here was our first proper hill. We thought we would stick nice and close to home and so we headed up Arthur's Seat, in Edinburgh. Fuelled on tea and porridge we headed out at 8.30am (Freyja's up at 6.00 everyday so everything happens earlier these days). Freyja tried out her new (second-hand) LittleLife Freedom Carrier which preformed perfectly. She seemed extremely happy and secure. Despite it being a stunningly sunny morning there was still quite a nip in the air so she was all bundled up in a cosy padded suit which kept her very toastie.

Freyja looking keen to get a move on!

 .....and we're off.

Heading up past the Commonwealth Pool and Pollock Halls towards Arthur's Seat.

Freyja settled into the walk very quickly and was asleep by the time we got to the foot of the hill. She seemed quite happy sleeping in this weird upright position.

Looking back to a view of Edinburgh and the Crags.

Having a little scramble up the hill.

Freyja manages to sleep through all of this!

Getting closer to the summit - with a beautiful view over Edinburgh.

Yay, the top! and Freyja is still sleeping.

 Braxony at the summit.

Freyja wakes up!

A bit of a scramble on the way back down.

Yep, Freyja looks pretty happy with the whole experience.

Braxonyja are back down on the road and ready to head back to Edinburgh.

Homewards bound in time for lunch!

New Equipment/additions:

Baby - perfect - very well behaved!
LittleLife Freedom Carrier - Excellent. Freyja looked very happy and comfortable. Jackson will need to get used to carrying a few stone of extra weight but he said it was pretty comfortable.
JoJo Maman Bebe - padded suit and sun hat. Kept her very cosy and warm and kept the sun off her head.
Emergency rations - Organix rice cakes.

Nature sighting (all the usual suspects):

Rabbit
Jackdaws
Magpies
