Carn a' Mhadaidh-ruaidh

28th June, 2009.

Carn a' Mhadaidh-ruaidh - (this is a great one), "
Cairn of the Red Fox" - 503m.

Some Carn a' Mhadaidh-ruaidh facts!

This hill has a great name - fact.
Incidentally there is a cairn at the summit of this hill marked on the map, although I don't remember seeing it!

Another beautiful sunny day at Arasaig. Braxony were accompanied on this walk by Gunther. We started this walk from Borrodale House. There is a path, which we managed to lose initially as we headed up through a little wooded area. The most disturbing thing about this was that this was the year of the tick plague. They were just everywhere. So in losing the path we had to battle through tick ridden bracken - not good. Still we found the path once more and followed it up alongside Borrodale Burn passed a number of small waterfalls, until it then broke away from the stream and headed north-west, uphill towards the summit of Carn a' Mhadaidh-ruaidh, again losing the path we headed through a pass past Lochan a Bhealaichh, Lochan Fada, Lochan donn and Lochan na Ba Glaise. Around here we stopped for lunch. Then heading down along the path, taking a left at scamadale and heading down through the wood to Sunisletter, where we scared someone who was sunbathing. We then took the track back to the A830 and then the B8008 to the Cnoc na Faire hotel. we stopped here for a well earned drink, (I see I am on the Pinot Grigio and Gunther on the Kelpie Ale, oh and I see Jacksons pint of Guinness there too), and some food, judging by the carefully documented table marker, (see last pic).

Nature curiosities:

Ticks - horrid.
Red Deer - much nicer.
